Join us for the 31st AIDA Freediving World Championship
The International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA) is heading back to Limassol, Cyprus for the 31st AIDA Freediving World Championship. The competition will welcome nearly 120 freedivers from around the world to Limassol from 19-30 September 2023 and feature friendly competition, live training sessions and more.
The competition will take place approximately one mile offshore from the beach in Limassol, where the water is expected to be 25-28C with a depth of 170m. Ideal conditions for the athletes to test their limits and succeed in their diving attempts.
During the world championship, athletes will compete in one or more of the four freediving depth disciplines:
Constant Weight (CWT): The freediver descends and ascends, attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with fins/monofin and/or their arms. Pulling on the rope and/or using propulsion aids other than fins/monofin is prohibited.
- Current Men’s World Record: 130m – Alexey Molchanov (International)
- Current Women’s World Record: 123m – Alessia Zecchini (Italy)
Constant Weight No Fins (CNF): The freediver descends and ascends, attempting to reach a targeted depth using only their arms and legs. Pulling on the rope and/or using propulsion aids is prohibited.
- Current Men’s World Record: 102m – William Trubridge (New Zealand)
- Current Women’s World Record: 73m – Alessia Zecchini (Italy)
Constant Weight Bifins (CWTB): The freediver descends and ascends, attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with bifins and/or their arms. Pulling on the rope and/or using propulsion aids other than bifins is prohibited.
- Current Men’s World Record: 121m – Alexey Molchanov (International)
- Current Women’s World Record: 109m – Alessia Zecchini (Italy)
Free Immersion (FIM): The freediver descends and ascends, attempting to reach a targeted depth by pulling on the rope. Propulsion aids are prohibited.
- Current Men’s World Record: 128m – Petar Klovar (Croatia)
- Current Women’s World Record: 98m – Alessia Zecchini (Italy)
