27th AIDA World Championship To Take Place in Cyprus
The International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA) is thrilled to announce the AIDA Depth World Championship 2021 to be held in Limassol, Cyprus. This individual competition will be AIDA’s 27th World Championship in their 29-year history.
The event is provisionally scheduled for the 20th to 30th September 2021, pending a final decision from the AIDA assembly in June. The decision will be based on new developments in COVID-19 restrictions related to international travel and nationwide regulations.
Over ten days, athletes will compete in four depth disciplines:
· Constant Weight (CWT): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with fins/monofin and/or their arms. Propulsion aids other than fins/monofin are prohibited.
o Current Men’s World Record: 130m – Alexey Molchanov (Russia)
o Current Women’s World Record: 114m – Alenka Artnik (Slovenia)
· Constant No Fins (CNF): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth using only their arms and legs. Propulsion aids and/or pulling on the rope are prohibited.
o Current Men’s World Record: 102m – William Trubridge (New Zealand)
o Current Women’s World Record: 73m – Alessia Zecchini (Italy)
· Constant Weight Bifins (CWTB): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with bifins and/or their arms. Propulsion aids other than bifins are prohibited.
o Current Men’s World Record: 113m – Alexey Molchanov (Russia)
o Current Women’s World Record: 92m – Alenka Artnik (Slovenia)
· Free Immersion (FIM): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by pulling on the rope. Propulsion aids are prohibited.
o Current Men’s World Record: 125m – Alexey Molchanov (Russia)
o Current Women’s World Record: 98m – Alessia Zecchini (Italy)
AIDA depth competitions take place in open salt or fresh water.
